Weight-testing and basket-shaking are community folklore; none of it is reliable. What is reliable: fresh cases. Stores put out full cases on truck days, and an untouched case means untouched odds.
Fakes are real and getting better. Authentic dumplings have consistent seam work, a matte steamer basket, and official series stickers. Marketplace listings with glossy baskets, off-color packaging, or 'glitter guaranteed' claims are the red flags — a guaranteed chase is a guaranteed fake.
